A meat plant boss, who ran a halal meat plant depsite not having a license to do so, as well as putting meat products obtained from the meat cutting machinery on to the market, has been jailed for four and a half years.
Yakub Moosa Yusuf, who ran Direct Halal Meat and Poultry, was found guilty of a wealth of health and safety violations, including having dirty surfaces at his meat cutting plant, as well as operating without a license and while breaching bail for a previous suspended jail sentence.
Mr Yusuf had an appeal thrown out by the Court of Appeal after the sentencing, with his claiming that the sentence he received was too harsh and didn't take into account his personal circumstances falling on deaf ears.
