KFC have been landed in hot water on both sides of the halal fence now, as their bid to provide halal fried chicken has landed them on the bad side of both halal and anti-halal groups, with both sides threatening boycotts.
The fast food chain had attempted to enter the halal market by offering halal food in 86 of its chains nationwide, however Muslim groups are claiming that the chickens are not being slaughtered correctly thanks to a lack of prayers before the slaughter and the machine slaughter method that the chain uses.
On top of this, the company has also faced stiff opposition from non-Muslim customers, with a number of facebook groups having been set up to argue against the proposed move, with many rallying against the loss of Big Daddy burgers from the menu thanks to halal diners not eating pork.
Though KFC insists their method is approved by the Halal Food Society, many Islamic leaders disagree, stating that the stunning that the birds undergo prior to slaughter leads to up to a third of them being killed before the point of slaughter. On top of this, the prayer is said over a speaker, which means that the chickens are not individually blessed as it is killed.
This is still a bone of contention amongst many in the halal community. One thing you can rely on it that Humza Foods will endeavour to only provide the best halal frozen foods, including top notch chicken products.
