The Fuego Grill in Dearborn in the Midwest of the US opened earlier this month, offering customers a range of Mexican food favourites alongside the signature creations of head chef Sam Alvarado in what he claims is the only restaurant of its kind in the American Midwest. Mr Alvarado claims that response from the local Muslim community has been really positive and that he has always felt that "...Something like this was overdue."
Alvarado, who has dabbled in cooking since finishing school, opened the Fuego Grill with the goal of bringing quality Mexican favourites to a new customer base, including dishes such as Tacos, Burritos and Quesadillas. Mr Alvarado's brother claims "There are several generations of younger Muslims who don't always want to eat the traditional food and this gives them the opportunity to adhere to their religion," going on that talk about how happy he is to provide this service to them.
Serving halal approved Mexican food is yet another step in ensuring that halal begins to gain more mainstream acceptance.
