A non-faith school has become the first in Britain to attain strict accreditation for serving halal foods. Daisyfield Primary School in Blackburn has a Muslim population of 95%, despite not being a faith school, and the fact that its menu achieves halal standards is an achievement that has been feted by headmaster Peter Fenton, who states that βI am pleased our self-managed kitchen has been recognised as meeting the standards of the Halal Monitoring Committee for purchase, storage and preparation of our meals.β
Tory MP David Davies was also inclined to comment, claiming that it was important that Muslim children were provided with all the tools necessary to practice their faith but that βIt is also important that we allow the full integration of immigrants. Concentration of certain ethnic groups in small areas does not help that.β
