The Halal Malaysia Week is expected to bring in more than RM3.8 billion in deals and transactions, claims Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, positioning the country firmly in a position as a beacon for the global halal industry, with the public-private partneship that brought the event into mass media focus being praised for its efforts to bring halal to the forefront of society.
The event has historically been a focal point for global industry players in the halal world, with consistently rising transaction throughout its entire run. However some are recommending caution after the event's largest turnout and profit ever, claiming that it is now time to take stock and ensure that those involved don't begin to overestimate the market, with the Prime Minister claiming that realising the full potential of the halal industry will take patience and understanding of all facets of the industry.
The industry must now place a focus beyond simply halal foods, with the cosmetics industry, estimated at $600billion a year in the US alone, the next big target for halal expansion.
