The Uganda National Bureau of Standards have signed an exclusive partnership with the Uganda Halal Bureau which should hopefully guarantee that locally produced food and beverages should receive proper inspection and cetification.
The move is part of a far-reaching program to have all locally produced goods and hospital facilities certified based on both scientific and religious values, thus allowing industries to gain more market share.
Under the initiative, any company producing halal commodities will have access to the worldwide halal market thanks to the official recognised certification. Specifically food vendors and manufacturers are being aimed at in the move.
Dr Terry Kahuma, the executive director of the UNBS said the partnership seeks to ensure that meat products satisfy the doctrines of scientific as well as the religious standards.
