Malaysian Muslims have been warned against drinking a new type of beer which claims to meet halal standards, amidst claims that the beverage contains an alcohol content that is higher than permitted under Islamic law.
Jamil Khir Baharom, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, claims that the beer has an alcohol content of 0.5%, rather than the 0.1% the distributor claims it to have.
He states that the government may seek to restrict the beverage's sale to Muslims because of this, stating "We will consult the Customs Department to seek more information on the matter."
