An organisation in Australia which provides halal certification to various meat products that arrive in the country has claimed that the slaughter methods utilised by an Indonesian abattoir are to brutal to be permissible under halal law.
Live Austrlian cattle exports to the country have been suspended after the revelation of animal cruelty at 11 different Indonesian halal foods slaughterhouses.
Cattle were being beaten and dying prolonged deaths at the eleven different slaughterhouses, which is not in accordance with halal procedure.
Dr Mohammad Lotfi from Australian Halal Food Services toldSBS that the treatment shown in Indonesia is unnecessary and inhumane.
