Increased Resistance is growing amongst Dutch Muslims to a recent ban on ritual slaughter that looks set to halt production of both kosher and halal food in the Netherlands.
The Dutch paper the Volkstrant claimed on Thursday that VVD party supporters are claiming that the government should focus on the industrial slaughter sector due to their opinion that animals actually suffer more during industrial slaughter than they do ritual. 66 members recently voted against the proposed ban at the party congress.
Cees Loggen, who is the chairman of the VVD in the Noord-Holland provincial council, claimed that around 1 in 10 animals are not properly stunned during industrial slaughter.
He continued "That is equivalent to 20 million animals in theNetherlands alone, making it a much more serious problem than in slaughterwithout stunning. So why just tackle ritualslaughter?"
